@bribrisimps (i'm using recent TS stans as an example because they were not around for the meet & greet / tumblr user era of Taylor Swift, she is much less accessible to her fans nowadays and that makes for a different experience as a fan)
@bribrisimps it's like how taylor swift used to invite fans to her house for secret sessions in the late 2010s & now there are 13 yr olds who became stans during eras... two completely different fan experiences but one is not more or less valid than the other
@bribrisimps if you were 9 years old in 2015 you were simply not the target audience at the time and thats ok! it's almost like 1d was a band for only 5 YEARS and if you weren't born within a specific timeframe you likely did not have the same experience that other fans had! jfc
Quick reminder that straight people inserting themselves into an inherently gay space or activity doesn’t make that space or activity any less gay by nature. “Straight women kiss their besties all the time.” Fine, but that doesn’t mean the act of two women kissing is straight 🤷🏻♀️
or... hear me out.... more sapphic representation leads to more sapphic women being comfortable to reclaim their identities from the people who have shoved heteronormative expectations onto them
anyway i just feel really bad for you if you’re too busy policing queer expression to enjoy the glorious sapphic renaissance clearly unfolding before us
we have never had so much queer (specifically sapphic) representation in media and it’s not lost on me that it has been met with an epidemic of “don’t ask, don’t tell”-esque speculation policing.
can't believe they already started throwing the queerbaiting allegations. we can't even have two hot women tonguing it out in a music video anymore, because of woke
i think something missing from the chappell roan conversation is that she specifically has bipolar disorder, which i also have. i think if i suddenly became famous as fast as she did and had people stalking me and harassing me, it would trigger a nuclear-level episode
Once again, cisheteronormativity and the immediate assumption that someone is queerbaiting by including queerness in their art is what forces queer people to come out before they’re ready to, not seeing queerness in their art and assuming they are queer.
we’re at an odd moment in pop culture history where chappell roan, an out lesbian, is the fastest rising pop star in the world, and yet as she grows in popularity, we start to see more and more people denying her lesbian identity, jumping through hoops to make her music straight
