Unfortunately very easy to imagine how this happened. In 2017 a USMC Herk flying over Mississippi had prop come apart which led to the front of the fuselage being cut off. Turned out the depot level maintenance wasn’t adequately looking at corrosion with the prop blades, there was a whole scandal with that. Not too hard to imagine how a similar situation could occur and the rear portion of the fuselage would come off in the aftermath of the front coming off. Wing box and landing gear structure directly underneath would maybe hold together better and be left to flutter to the ground. Not saying this is what happened but after 20 years flying Herks (E, H and J models) it would seem like a very plausible explanation.
