Not 100% sure on the Ashes of Creation story here. But it seems a lot if not maybe everyone was laid off from what I'm reading. Waiting for an official statement.
That being said. Ashes of Creation is a prime example of why it is so hard for the players to TRUST any new MMORPG that comes out and why they are sometimes or most of the time a bit high strung and volatile about it.
The thousands of dollars spent some 20k some 30k 8 years into development. Hell I even kick started it for $400 on first day of Kickstarter. But I quickly realized what all the non naive and smart gamers realized about 6 years in.
It feels like trickery. Feels like the inevitable which may be perceived as a scam at this point. Steam just rolled out what month ago or so and there were no signs by them?
I dunno man. As much as we meme the AoC players I feel downright sorry for them if this is all true.
