LAWMAKERS JOIN THOUSANDS AT ANTI-CORRUPTION PROTESTS

Senate Deputy Majority Leader Risa Hontiveros, Senators Kiko Pangilinan and Bam Aquino, and House Deputy Minority Leader Leila de Lima on Sunday joined thousands of Filipinos at the EDSA People Power Monument to protest the multi-trillion peso flood control scandal.

They marched alongside the "Akbayan Reform Bloc" — Akbayan Partylist Representatives Chel Diokno, Perci Cendaña, Dadah Kiram Ismulah, and Dinagat Islands Rep. Kaka Bag-ao — in a mobilization organized by Simbahan at Komunidad laban sa Katiwalian (SIKLAB), Akbayan Party, Tindig Pilipinas, ML Partylist, Nagkaisa Labor Coalition, Kalipunan, and Youth Against Kurakot (YAK).

Organizers said more than 3,000 joined the morning rally at EDSA, signaling the start of a series of demonstrations that will culminate in the "Trillion Peso March" later in the day, with over 30,000 expected to participate.

At the same time, Kabataan Partylist joined a massive anti-corruption rally at Luneta Park. As of 10:45 a.m., the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) estimated the crowd at 49,000.

Cendaña warned that public anger is "nearing boiling point" and vowed that the Dutertes' "legacy of corruption" will face a day of reckoning. He also cautioned President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. that failure to hold allies accountable could shift the people's anger toward him.

Diokno stressed the need to recover stolen public funds, while Ismulah called for a probe into anomalous projects in Mindanao, including those allegedly funneled to Davao City.

Kabataan Partylist, meanwhile, declared: "NEVER AGAIN TO CORRUPTION! The power of the people is stronger than the people in power!"

Witnessing the massive crowd—shouting, waving placards, and marching side by side—we felt our shared strength, our unbreakable resolve, and the unstoppable force of a nation rising against corruption.

Ito ang lakas ng nagkakaisang sambayanan. Iisa ang sigaw, iisa ang puso. Panahon na para singilin at ipakulong ang lahat ng kawatan at pahirap sa bayan.

Samahan niyo rin po kami sa panawagan na agarang maisabatas ang isinusulong nating “Independent Commission Against Infrastructure Corruption.” Kailangan natin ng batas na may ngipin para tuluyang mapanagot ang lahat ng kurakot.

Those who recognised Mary as blessed are those filled with the Holy Spirit

As I reflected on the holiness and blessedness of Mary, I became more convinced of the truth that “to recognise the blessedness of Mary is to be filled with the Holy Spirit”.

In the first chapter of the Gospel of Luke all those who recognised the blessedness of Mary were filled with the Holy Spirit. Beginning with John the Baptist, even from his mother’s womb, was filled with the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:15). At the sound of Mary’s greeting, he leapt for joy (Luke 1:44) already recognising the presence of the Lord and the blessedness of His Mother.

Elizabeth, too, filled with the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:41), cried out: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.” She did not arrive at this insight by human reasoning but by the Spirit’s inspiration.

Mary herself is the model of this grace. The Holy Spirit came upon her (Luke 1:35), making her the dwelling place of the Son of God. And in her humility she proclaimed: “All generations will call me blessed” (Luke 1:48).

It is the Spirit, therefore, who reveals the mystery of Mary. To recognise her blessedness is not mere devotion but a Spirit-filled acknowledgment of God’s work in her life.

As the Spirit moved John, Elizabeth, and Mary, may He also open our eyes today to see in Mary not just a mother, but the blessed vessel of grace who leads us to her Son-Jesus Christ. Amen
