This scene is a masterpiece, it’s basically a textbook depiction of ego death. The shattering of a grand illusion, that desperate final attempt to prove the lie right and then the total psychological collapse. Essential viewing.

Michael Caine’s Harry Palmer is constantly boxed in, observed, obstructed, and trapped inside layers of bureaucracy and espionage. The compositions make the audience feel like we are spying on the spy.

Every frame has tension. Composition is story.

In On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969), the ice car race was filmed on a playing field in Switzerland, which was flooded with water every night to turn to ice.

Unfortunately, the weather was so mild it kept defrosting during the day, which delayed filming.

Despite the difficulties, the sequence became one of the most iconic and technically impressive car chases in the Bond series, especially given the lack of modern CGI.
