We were saddened to hear of the passing of Marvin Brown aged 42.

Marvin joined the Bristol City Academy at the age of eight and went on to become the club’s youngest player, aged just 16 years and 71 days in September 1999.

While at the club, Marvin featured for England Under-16s and Under-17s before moving on to Forest Green Rovers in 2004.

A proud Bristolian, Marvin founded Total Pro Soccer, a development centre for young boys in the Bristol area and worked as an Academy coach at Bristol City alongside and beyond his playing career in various roles and played a crucial role in the development of numerous Academy graduates.

Our sincere condolences go to his family & friends.

I have been in the unique situation of:

• Knowing Kieron Lewis, U12 Head @ArsenalAcademy professionally

• Personally coaching @ArsenalAcademy

There are a few insights I think are important to share:

1. Having seen Kieron deliver he is an exceptional young player developer

2. In the (very short) clip, Kieron never says the opposite 8 "has to" stay in that. It's the recognition of trying to exploit a 2v1

3. The syllabus of an academy is designed but many professional coaches (you cannot be your own boss of the philosophy)

4. A principle at Arsenal is playing the highest player as quickly as possible. This is an example of how it could be possible if a switch is required.

Overall, you cannot have it both ways.

Praise the academy and marvel at the Saka's, Lewis-Skelly's, Nwaneri's and Dowman's who have come though the to the 1st team and suprised everyone.

And then slate a coach at the club in a 47 second clip with no broader context.

Harry Amass makes his official Manchester United debut on his 18th birthday.

It’s been a long time coming for the left-back who has had to bide his time since his involvement in United’s pre-season tour last summer, but it comes well-earned.

He becomes United’s 253rd academy graduate to make a first-team appearance.
