Australian democracy is on worse than shaky ground when calls for an Integrity Commission are gagged. I’d love to have seen a wide pan to see how votes to gag outweighed the nays. Seems to me time for a coalition of independents. 2 parties suck
Today I called on the government to create a national integrity commission. It shut me down. Gagged. But I won't give up. We need #federalICAC now.

Oh dear. This is what happens when political leaders are incapable of listening to experts...they propagate misinformation and ‘lead’ their followers into behaviours that compromise their own and our wider global wellbeing
Trump: "Antibiotics used to solve every problem and now one of the biggest problems the world has is the germ has gotten to brilliant that the anti-antibiotic can't keep up with it."
The auto industry is a great example of how we could leverage the post fossil fuel transition to create lots of jobs in Aus (my comments)
Anyone able to pass this to @mcannonbrookes @simonahac @_Oliver_Yates @AmyGlancey https://t.co/zaQp0J2nrI
Holden now, how far behind Ford and Toyota? Surely it’s time for the next gen Auto manufacturer. Form a new EV JV with Tesla, Zoox, mop up the talent and facilities and crank up the transition. Sell custom EVs into a new style car share that whips Uber’s butt @mcannonbrookes
👇 the long, slow, painful death of the australian car industry.
people of all stripes are dedicated to ensuring coal workers are looked after. why didn’t we make that commitment to automotive workers?
some jobs more equal than others? or just victims in a culture war?
Keep it simple. Quote the Garnaut reports and link in expertise and throw in the 2008 report quoting short hazard reduction season and more severe bushfires by 2020. he is again imperiling the country by ignoring experts to line his coal lobby mates pockets #coalRorts
ATTN climate & energy tweeps: does anyone have a list of energy transition studies?
i’m factchecking the PM’s nonsense:
“there is no credible energy transition plan, for an economy like australia…, that does not involve the greater use of gas as an important transition fuel.”
Looking forward to it Alex. I’m in total alignment. I call it the Ecosystems Revolution where our hierarchies of power and control are redustributed. A scary but exciting phase of humanity
@AlexSteffen Really fascinating thread, and dovetails with a lot of what I'm seeing (recent Blackrock announcement, e.g.) I browsed your website; is there an accessible essay/podcast where you expand on this? before getting to your full book :-)
Sadly so true. The world is so kind and empathetic are our politicians undermining our merit??? at what point of this spiral do we get considered a rogue nation
dear world,
sorry that we‘re not pulling our weight on emissions.
sorry for our politicians lying about them coming down.
sorry for angus taylor undermining global agreement in madrid.
sorry for these bushfire emissions.
thanks for all your donations.
we’ll try harder,
australia.
Im up for it. Not as a leader per se in the sense of hierarchy. It needs an ecosystem approach but I’ve been working on it for some time. Would you be up for it too? Laying the groundwork for https://t.co/TM9ZxBUZZY by ideas network TED
This is the key for it to have merit. Not a skynews zoo but a proper symposium Do you think you could organise a group that would try stick to proper debate not the typical techniques of straw man etc
Yes the tide is turning. Now from this cohort we need to transition to the next stage and start building an army of climate solutionists. Strikes are good, solutions are better
As discussed at Davos we need a dashboard of full impact societal indicators for both companies and countries that get people to a view that GDP as our KPI for success is totally outdated as is concept we should focus on growth. We need to evolve to next stage of humanity...fast!
Narrative of last 10 years in the west: shares, property prices & other asset prices continually go up. Wages remain stagnant. There is fundamental lack of fairness as well as damage to social cohesion. Something has to change & society needs to be creative about path forward.
Admittedly they have a good headstart.
It raises the issue how do we get India’s baseload off coal. We need to defuse the Australian argument that Aussie coal is good for the climate emergency or at very least make it a very short transition not long dependency
Finland pledged to be carbon-neutral by 2035 - twice as fast as the UK - in the most ambitious commitment in the world to date
And that's with zero reliance on carbon credits
Don't let anyone say it can't be done

Other merit inmaking this happen quickly is it’s not just the Australian community that needs this How dangerous to the world’s fate is Trump re-election?? It dwarfs Australian politics and maybe an Australian symposium would lay it out for American voters.
I see merit in the proposal. There are many good people who have formed a view to fight the transition. If the process lays out a definitive resource (skeptikalscience is outdated, nasa and climatefeedback incomplete). At same time debunk transition bad for economy.
@Tim_jbo @JohnRuddick2@cha001@flexibledragnet “the climate has always changed”
what are you? 8 years old? come on tim. we are past that ridiculously simple objection. take the time to learn the science.
You can tell the tide is turning. It’s time for you to show the leadership to create an alternative that’s not more of the same. Working with India to find alternative baseloads is one example rather than pushing our coal into the atmosphere. Us Swinging voters want better
