Imagine the connection & trust that is
built from asking Qs, understanding someone rather than the disconnection that happens by assuming & judging instead… 👀 #getcurious
Be excited for people when they succeed.
When a friend or family member reaches an important milestone like getting a promotion or making their first sale or scoring acceptance into their desired program, celebrate it. Buy them a drink. Send them a card. Tell them you’re proud to know them.
Being thrilled on someone’s behalf is a lovely way to be. Winning is better when shared.
More than 40 years ago, I arrived in Chicago in search of an idea. I was a young man looking for purpose, who believed deeply in America, was inspired by the Civil Rights Movement, and wanted to be a part of something larger. The America I believed in was one where everyone has opportunity, everyone is seen, everyone belongs—because that was an America that had a place for me, too.
You actually reduce crime by eliminating poverty. You reduce crime with universal healthcare, public housing, livable wages, and free college. You reduce violence by creating happy, healthy communities that aren’t constantly fighting over basic needs and material resources.
“We live in a culture that increasingly rewards speed and efficiency. Yet many of the experiences we value most—understanding another person, grappling with difficult ideas, encountering beauty—unfold slowly.” https://t.co/aFvBuYzX7F

One day we will look back on the murder of “60 Minutes” as one of the travesties of Trump’s reign.
In the meantime, thank you Scott Pelley for telling the truth. Thank you, former “60 Minutes” producers, correspondents, and staff, for telling the truth.
And now, we should boycott CBS. https://t.co/dusMiZXyVn
When we have the freedom to show up as our true, authentic selves, there is no limit to what we can achieve.
This Pride Month, let's celebrate the courage to live openly, the power of community, and the belief that everyone deserves to be seen, valued, and loved exactly as they are.
Happy #PrideMonth!
Since I took office, we've increased @ChiYouthWorks summer youth employment by 55%. That's 82,000 summer jobs, almost 9 million hours of work and skills building, and $105.8 million in wages—coinciding with the safest year in @Chicago since the 1960s.
Buying fresh vegetables with ADHD is just an expensive little ritual where I lovingly place them in the crisper drawer, instantly erase them from my memory, and then act completely heartbroken two weeks later when I find a bag of mysterious brown liquid where the spinach used to be
YOUR THERAPIST HAS A THERAPIST.
You do NOT need to take care of your therapist-EVER.
DO internalize that they do the work of evolving and growing, like you.
Let this knowing connect you to their humanity, to their perfectly imperfect self, and their commitment to self-care so they can show up to create a regulated and safe space for you.

Before we run to judge people who “aren’t doing enough to heal” I want to remind us all that while trauma is FREE and available to ANYone, healing is expensive AF, and not accessible to all. XO, Dr. Jen
A Monday morning question for you:
If you want a plant to grow, you can fuss over it every day—watering, weeding, moving it toward the sun. Or you can place it in the right soil and let nature do most of the work. A seed planted in the right spot often thrives on its own. Life is much the same. Progress is not only about how hard you work, but also about where you decide to work.
Where is your energy better spent right now: pushing harder or planting yourself in better ground?
