Richard Sterne was ranked 29th in the world in 2008 before injuries struck. By 2024 he was ranked 4578 in the world. After several back injuries, operations and 3 wrist surgeries, he must have thought it was over. To see him win today, 13 years since his last, is very special.
The Doorman Fallacy
'You have a five-star hotel and it has a doorman, welcoming incoming guests.
McKinsey or Accenture will come in and say, “Your doorman currently costs you X thousand dollars a year. We have defined his or her function as opening the door. We’ll replace said doorman with an automatic door-opening mechanism and an infrared human detector and we’ll save you $30–$40,000 a year.”
They walk away, and they take the credit for the cost savings. Two years later, the hotel’s a catastrophe ... because the doorman was doing multiple things, many of which were human and kind of tacit.
Security would be one; there are no vagrants asleep in the doorway. Hailing taxis, dealing with luggage, recognizing regular guests, providing status to the hotel—there are loads and loads of value creation components to that doorman which aren’t captured in the open-the-door definition."
It's easy to see the visible things, but the invisible things make the difference.
@Am_RugbyLeague It is impressive but the reality is that this is as much scarcity of top tier games as it is pure demand. The acid test would be attendance based on a critical mass of games. Nonetheless, great to see the turnout.

40-year old James Morrison HAD to win the last @HPlanner_Tour event of the season to earn his DP World Tour card for next year.
And he won.

@gamblingstacks@KylePorterNS Ownership has to be felt by the players. A figure like Tiger only makes the player feel like they're doing somebody else's bidding. Europe has been successful IMHO because it's always been about creating an environment where they can feel ownership at every touchpoint.
@jamierkennedy Luke's curiosity is undoubtedly an ingredient to his success but I also think his general disposition and calmness put people (that are in a pressure cooker environment like RC) at immense ease. Whatever he feels internally, he can regulate incredibly well on the surface level.
@Daniel_Rapaport The issue isn’t whether there’s money on the table or not but that we are giving as much airtime to it as we are. Let each team do what they want but stop feeding this fire. Whether a team is getting remunerated or not, this week is only about money if you make it about the money
