one of the core things that helped me better understand dynamic programming is that it’s an optimization on top of recursion
what i used to think was a misunderstanding of DP was really a lack of understanding of recursion
if u wanna learn dp from first principles, i'd say start with cses dp + atcoder dp contest..
once you're done, move to leetcode hard dp and non-standard codeforces dp problems.
that's how you'll actually start thinking better instead of just memorizing patterns.
one of my favorite parts of learning with llms is that it shortens the feedback loop.
instead of having to go to a prof’s office, painfully wait in line at TA help hours, or work on a team in a particular domain, all you need to do to learn is just ask an llm.
for me personally, it’s made hills out of mountains for digesting & understanding textbooks & articles, and has made it much easier to ‘see the forest through the trees’ in various domains and applications of software.
the best teaching assistant in the world is accessible from your pocket. how will you use it today?
i can’t speak for everyones situation, but tech recruiting is a lot like dating apps. top N% get all the matches
all that matters (for the most part) is that you’re in the top N
sometimes you just need to go a layer below to get the layers above
i was struggling w/ the patterson & hennessy book once logic circuits came into play, so i spent the last week or so solidifying my mental model around logic design (took me longer to appreciate the problem flip flops solve than i’d like to admit).
now im back to the processor chapters and its reading smooth as butter!
imo, this is similar to saying ‘if one can obtain and improve the skills you’re evaluating for, you should evaluate your hiring process’ which seems a bit coarse since all interviews evaluate *something* and one could say that obtaining the skills required to succeed in the role is considered ‘prep’
but i agree with the sentiment that one’s interview process should determine whether or not a candidate is a good fit for the actual role rather than the proxies of it often used for evaluation in interviews today
