In 2026, the city faces tens of billions in debt and pension obligations, higher property taxes, and a parking meter lease that still has 57 years remaining.
Some of the same political figures who voted for the original deal remain in public office today.
Chicago taxpayers deserve a full accounting of how we got here, where the money went, and what options exist moving forward.

I’m currently at the City of Chicago Committee on Finance, where decisions are being made on how billions of taxpayer dollars are allocated across our city departments.
Mr. Blakemore had something to say.Every citizen who pays taxes in Chicago deserves clear, real-time transparency on how their money is being spent, not just reports after the fact or confusing budget language that most people never get to see.
This is public money. It belongs to the people. Whether it’s water, infrastructure, public safety, or city services, taxpayers should be able to follow every dollar from collection to spending.
I will continue to attend these meetings and make sure the voices of working Chicagoans are heard and respected in these budget decisions.

The media spent days warning about controversy and chaos.
The event ended, people celebrated, and everyone went home.
Meanwhile, reports from the Knicks championship celebration included a fatal shooting, multiple stabbings, injured police officers, vandalism, burned vehicles, and dozens of arrests.
Maybe it’s time to stop stereotyping millions of Americans and start paying attention to what actually happens.
