@NeilMacFarquhar Fair point on class. I remember doing an interview w Larry Korb during Iraq and he was pretty upset at the quality of solider we were putting on battlefield. Not exactly prison recruits but not much better. Prob why we saw Abu Ghraib etc.
@NeilMacFarquhar I'm no Russian apologist but the story on Russia paying recruits signing bonuses, relying on minorities, and lowering the bar dramatically for soldiers to join up could have been written about the US armed forces during our forever wars.
