Today is the birthday of Major General Maksym Shapoval, the late commander of the elite 10th storm/diversion unit of the Ukrainian military intelligence. He could be 47 now.
In 2014, the Shapoval's unit liberated the Donetsk airport from Vympel, the elite Spec Op unit of the Russian FSB. (The long-term defense of the airport allowed Ukraine to disrupt Russian plans for the covert capture of all of the Donbas Oblast).
Ten days before he died in Kyiv on July 27, 2017, from the car bomb planted under his vehicle, Shapoval hunted down and liquidated Cherkashyn Yuri Mikhailovich, a notorious Russian FSB Colonel (no photo) who was responsible for multiple terror acts all over Ukraine in the mid-2010s.
The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine has officially shown the operation of the S-200 surface-to-air missile system for the first time.
The video shows the launch of a 5V28 missile from a standard Soviet 5P72V launcher, which was previously believed to be decommissioned.
We will never forget.
Today marks the third anniversary of the murder of two Ukrainian heroes — Tigran Oganesyan and Mykyta Khanganov.
Two 16-year-old schoolboys from Berdiansk who became symbols of unbreakable resistance. They were among the first to tear down the russian tricolor in their occupied city, openly defying the occupiers.
For this, they were abducted, tortured, and falsely labeled “terrorists.” On June 24, 2023, russians executed them in cold blood in occupied Berdiansk.
They did not break. They did not bow. They did not surrender.
Their courage lives on. Their names echo through time.
We remember. We honor. We stand.
Tigran and Mykyta — forever in our hearts.
The grass on Center Court at Wimbledon over the decades shows a change in the wear patterns. This transformation is not the result of new, more resilient turf or grounds keeping technologies, but due to changing racket technology.
In the era of wooden rackets, the heavy weight of the racket resulted in a "serve and volley" game. Given the impossibility of finishing a point from the back of the court, players resorted to volleying to win points at the net.
With the shift from wooden rackets to modern materials, the game moved towards powerful baseline play. Today's players are taller, hit hard from both sides, serve aggressively, and finish points predominantly from the back of the court.
I enjoyed watching the pro-Kremlin sycophant Tucker Carlson squirm when asked why he’s allowed into Russia.
Funny how Tucker can travel there freely while journalists like Jerome Starkey, Caolan Robertson, Evan Gershkovich, Alsu Kurmasheva, and much of the Ukraine: The Latest team have faced arrest warrants, imprisonment, or bans simply for doing their jobs.
The question isn’t why they’re targeted.
The question is: why isn’t Tucker? 🤔
Tack!

Q: How did you know back in 2008 that Ukraine would be next?
Kasparov: I just listened to Putin. In 2005 he declared the collapse of the Soviet Union was the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the 20th century. In Munich 2007 he told Bush and Western leaders — NATO must go back to 1997 borders.
After the war against Georgia in 2008 I wrote — next is Ukraine. People asked how I knew. I looked at the map. He published the Novorossiya map himself. Putin's plans to restore the Russian Empire were never a secret. He always told everyone exactly what he would do.
