There it is…….completely gobsmacking disparity between two high-risk hazardous industries running literally parallel to each other yesterday between Mullewa and Geraldton in the Midwest of WA. One industry highly regulated with enforced lighting regulations (road transport), the other self-regulated and with no legal requirement for trains to be lit to a particular standard (rail industry) in 2025 and allowed to fly under the radar by both the regulator ONRSR and the Government.
ROAD TRANSPORT VS RAIL INDUSTRY
ROAD TRANSPORT INDUSTRY
-Minimum mandatory and enforceable visibility standards (including lashing beacon lights (the accepted indicator of a hazard on our roads)clearance lights and mandatory side lighting. Fines apply for non-compliant road transport operators.
-Oversized loads required by law to have escorts in place (front and back of load) that have flashing lights on their roofs and signage to warn of the approaching hazard.
-UHF communications between truck drivers, escort drivers and motorists interacting with oversized loads available at all times.
-Strictly no movement of oversized loads after dark under permit.
RAIL INDUSTRY
-No legal requirement for trains to be lit to a particular standard.
-Minimal frontal lighting (headlights and ditch lights)
-no side lighting
-maintenance standards for reflective strips under AS7531 (the standard governing train and rolling stock lighting) are recommended not mandated.
-no UHF communication available for train drivers to communicate with oncoming motorists at unprotected regional crossings
-no legal requirement for flashing rotating beacons on locomotive roofs or side lighting on rolling stock.
-no permits required to travel at night.
Christian, Jess and Hilary - three precious, beautiful country people whose lives were tragically cut short 24 years ago today.
I don’t want sympathy, I simply need your help.
I am asking you to sign this petition to honour their lives and save others

Currently there is no legal requirement for trains or rolling stock to be lit to a particular standard in Australia.
Does this footage acceptable visibility of lighting for a hazardous, high-risk industry in 2024 to you?

Today is International Level Crossing Awareness Day.
My thoughts are with my beloved brother Christian, his beautiful friends Jess and Hilary and all those who have lost their lives in completely preventable rail accidents at unlit regional crossings.

The anger & shock in the livestock industry following the Fed Gov's "phase out plan" for live sheep export is palpable. We stand with growers & supply chain & have sent this letter to Canberra. We won't stop there. WA politicians - stand up for your State & our rural communities
If you want to lend this campaign a hand please share. Eight precious rural people killed in two separate states at notorious crossings just seven months apart. The rail industry and the government aren’t doing enough! Time’s up! We’ve waited long enough!
Well WTAF
Just been told that electric may be out for 1 WEEK and we just have to suck it up.
I am furious.
1 week of no income
1 week of PAYING for alternate accomodation
1 week of rotten food
1 week of a remote town have NO doctor as there is now no infrastructure for them to even live there
$6000 of vaccines wasted
Food wasted
Thousands in lost income
Thousands in lost wages
Who is going to pay for this? Me.
@westernpowerwa will pay $150 in compensation. Ha ha.
This is absolute bullshit.
A metro doctor having all the above will earn $15 000 for working that week and be FIFO in and out.
How is this fair?? Why do the people who do the least get the most reward? What sort of bloody system is this.
I will lose an entire weeks income and still have to pay staff to have a week off as there is nothing else to do.
This shows one thing neither the state or federal government cares about rural. The inaction is stifling.
Zero, zilch nothing. They do NOT care.
8 years working rural and this is the bottom line.
I shouldn’t have bothered.
What a waste of my time.
Our sacrifices were for what? Nothing, a whole lot of nothing. I should have adopted the same attitude as metro and thought show me the money.
Now getting messages to say that the town shouldn’t use water as they are running out!
What??

Simons school of beating inflation-
1. Stop buying shit you dont need
2. Make your coffee at home
3. Make your lunch.
4. Check your automatic payments for gouging eg apple music etc
5. If you cant pay cash dont buy it.
Gonout for birthdays/anniversarys/special occasions
My letter in today’s West Australian newspaper (Monday 30th October 2023).
Special thanks to every one of our incredible supporting organisations-I didn’t have space to physically list you all but each and every one of you are immensely valued by our families and supporters 🙏🏼
It's hard to be optimistic about the state of things when you see the ongoing decline of the sectors that actually produce stuff, while the "services" sectors are thriving.
Note the largest growth sector: "Public administration and safety"
My letter in today’s West Australian newspaper, Monday 7th August 2023. I am most definitely not prepared to look on in disbelief as another “business as usual” Rail Safety Week rolls around for the rail industry. Our families have paid the ultimate price for inaction.
Can you see this train coming through a passive level crossing in the WA Wheatbelt? You’re not alone if you can’t and this illustrates exactly what we are up against.

This story should not be behind a paywall. Tragic aftermath of an innocuous football injury and the lack of financial funding to support James Anderson from football bodies across Australia since. Good bloke and was a very good footballer, no one deserve this outcome.
