The incomparably magnificent First Summer Uika celebrated her 36th birthday last Thursday! 🌟✨
This is another big year for Uika. For one thing, she's starring in no fewer than four major release movies: BANA ANA (バナ穴), an unconventional, independent film from popular entertainment trio Atarashii Chizu (新しい地図, New Map) in June; Tokyo MER: Mobile Emergency Room - Capital Crisis, the latest in the hit medical action-drama franchise Tokyo MER in August; Shadow Work (シャドウワーク), a crime suspense film adapted from a novel by Edogawa Rampo prize winner Hiromi Sano in September; and, most excitingly, courtroom drama First Voice - Our Ace Attorney (ファーストボイス ー私たちの逆転裁判ー), in which she has the next most prominent role after lead actress Haruka Ayase, in October.
I hope I get to see at least one of these with English subs, hopefully on the big screen.
Uika says, "As this is the year of the horse, I'll gallop full speed ahead".
In Chinese zodiac, 2026 is the year of the fire horse. According to https://t.co/EJUCOfBZa6, "this year ushers in dynamic, fiery energy that inspires bold changes, creative risks, and forward motion". That sounds quite apt in Uika's case, but then every year brings new creative highs and forward motion for wonderful Uika!
Incidentally, Uika was born in the year of the metal horse, and is thus expected to be "independent, sharp , with a resilient, energetic, and adventurous spirit". "People with this sign are generally known for being charismatic, quick-witted, and highly motivated in their pursuits". Again, that really does aptly describe our Uika!

Incarnate goddess First Summer Uika demonstrates both her stunningly powerful singing voice and her consummate acting skills in this performance of the classic ballad “A Woman of Osaka” ( "Osaka de Umareta Onna", 大阪で生まれた女), made famous by singer-songwriter BORO. BORO’s original was released on August 1, 1979; in its entirety, it goes for 34 minutes and consists of 18 versus (!), but it was trimmed down to less than five minutes for the single version, which uses lyrics from the fourth, sixth and sixteenth verses. The song conveys the mixed feelings of an Osaka native bidding farewell to both her beloved hometown and her carefree youth. Although Uika calls upon her acting finesse in adopting the role of a sultry club singer when performing the song (as one viewer put it, “it’s not First Summer Uika singing ‘A Woman of Osaka’, it’s First Summer Uika portraying a club singer singing ‘A Woman of Osaka’”) , one wonders if Uika-sama felt similar emotions herself as she left Osaka for Tokyo as a young aspirant actress, driven by love for her craft, the forlorn hope of meeting an old flame, and, perhaps, a vague awareness of her unfolding destiny to become Japan’s greatest entertainer - a scintillating white hot star of stage, screen and airwaves! It's also fitting that BORO conceived the song's protagonist as his idea of the ideal woman, since Uika is my idea of the ideal woman! #ファーストサマーウイカ #FirstSummerUika #ファッサマ #ウイポン
I’m thrilled that the movie “Petals and Memories” (Hana Manma, 花まんま), which stars the incomparable First Summer Uika-sama, is showing at the Japanese Film Festival here in Perth, Australia, which means I get to watch it at the cinema with English subtitles. The film is based on the Naoki Prize-winning novel by Minato Shukawa. Uika’s character Komako didn’t appear in the novel; she was created for the film. However, when Shukawa visited the set and witnessed the way Uika-sama brought the character to life, he was so impressed that he was inspired to write a new book, titled “The Spirit of Flowers” (花のたましい), that incorporates the character Komako. Isn’t that amazing? It just goes to show, once again, that Uika-sama is an exceptionally talented actress and a truly special and amazing person. It was also said that Uika-sama’s high-spirits and energy on set invigorated the entire cast, and her unique fashion sense informed Komako’s distinctive costumes.

I was so excited to see my beloved Uika-sama perform this classic song by one of my favourite Japanese groups of the '80s!

I'm so happy to have got hold of this fabulous First Summer Uika near-life-sized towel! Since I'm outside Japan, I have to obtain Japanese products through a proxy shipper, and it can take a long time for orders to be processed. I was afraid all Uika's merch would sell out before I could buy anything! So, when I woke up today to find the order had gone though, I felt like a kid on Christmas morning!😃🥳🎉
Uika is selling memorabilia related to her upcoming fan appreciation events, "Summer Fantasy Banquet" (夏幻宴), which are to be held in Uika's home city of Osaka on September 14 and in Tokyo on September 20. Oh, how I wish I could go! There are still many splendid items for sale @ https://t.co/ATTpV7r863, so go check them out!

Divine enchantress First Summer Uika performs "Rūju no Dengon" (ルージュの伝言, Lipstick Message) by Yumi Arai (荒井 由実) on this year's "Showa vs. Reiwa!"
Uika-sama's performance is just SO captivating, beguiling, bewitching and delightful 😍🌟🤩. The song is about a girl who leaves a message penned in lipstick for her boyfriend after he cheats on her, and there's a touch of the old Uipon fierceness as Uika-sama sings the line "I won't go home unless I give up my unfaithful love".
I recognised the song because it was covered by the wonderful former synth-pop idol Emiri Kanou on her 2022 EP with the Sally Kubota Group (listen to it here: https://t.co/V2KNZxVVL4). It was a hit for Yumi Arai in 1975, being her first single to enter the Oricon Singles Chart. Just over ten years later, it came to be known and loved by new generation as the theme for as the Studio Ghibli film "Kiki's Delivery Service".

Uika-sama, I would dearly love to get hold of an acrylic figure. I had my heart set the "gothic" and "school" versions that show you in your HONEYBADGER costumes. Oh divine Uika-sama, you of infinite kindness and grace, please bestow more of these longed-for treasures upon us! Since I'm not in Japan, I've been fussing around trying to buy through various forwarding services, but the Cupit Club website keeps rejecting my orders!
😭 I just hope ZenMarket comes through for me with the One Summer Life-Size Towel, otherwise I will be truly heartbroken!
Thanks for all the marvellous art posts.
I couldn’t quite believe this was painted in 1851 - and as it turns out, it wasn’t. It’s a painting from about 8 years ago, by a certain Arthur Futernik, done after an illustration by Hegenbart. See here: https://t.co/x1hkTEaYen
