UPDATE FROM SOMEONE IN ASHEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA:
“We have so many supplies being brought in, so many boots on the ground, military vehicles everywhere, and helicopters are making deliveries day and night. Comfort stations are set up all over for showers and bathrooms. Verizon has charging stations and wifi trucks set up. You can drive almost any direction and find water (as much as you need) and bathroom supplies, snacks, food, so many things! FEMA is everywhere. It's all very coordinated and you can tell they are trying their best.
We even saw a military truck pulling a huge trailer loaded with hay up the mountain. I’d imagine some farms lost their hay and the animals need it. They really seem to be thinking of everything.
I went to the laundromat yesterday and two women who work for an energy company were doing laundry for the linemen. They said crews are subcontracted through Duke Energy and they are from all over - even Canada. The guys are working 16 hour days nonstop so these women are helping with their laundry.
Anyone that is saying things aren't getting done correctly or fast enough has no idea of the scope of the problem.”
