Thrilled to announce my first publication in a peer-reviewed journal. It's about how authoritarian governments in the Gulf seek to shape debate in the online space. If you have thoughts/feedback, please do not hesitate to reach out! https://t.co/QQPey4Pax8
Ireland will not broadcast the #Eurovision this week - and instead of the final, RTÉ will air a repeat of the Father Ted Eurovision episode A Song for Europe https://t.co/py9cuAzwuF
#Mali: so much said about external support to justify the deadly ambush against #Wagner. Based on little I know about the insurgency in the #Sahel, militarily doesn’t take much to cause that much harm to state forces and PMCs, especially when latter are unfamiliar with the area.
In my live interview with @AJEnglish, we discussed the aftermath of a series of missile and drone attacks originating from #AnsarAllah#Houthi-controlled areas in #Yemen, which targeted vessels in the Red Sea. On Sunday, a @USNavy destroyer intercepted drones during a sustained attack in the #RedSea. The Bahamas-flagged bulk carrier Unity Explorer, the Panamanian-flagged bulk carriers Number 9 and Sophie II were targeted by missiles and drones.

Russia is moving to upgrade its covert presence in Libya through a defense accord with eastern military leader Khalifa Haftar, according to Bloomberg. The deal may include training, air-defense systems, and a naval base on Europe’s southern doorstep. https://t.co/9LDxvMBQnf
An information blackout obscured recovery operations in crisis-hit #Derna#Libya this week. Communications were cut and journalists were asked to leave after locals protested over authorities’ failures that led to the flooding’s catastrophic death toll.

Peace talks between the #Houthis and #SaudiArabia wrapped up Tuesday in #KSA, in what was the first public official visit to #Riyadh by a #Houthi delegation since the war erupted in 2015. https://t.co/saKfAx2TCe
Important point made here that central #Derna will effectively be uninhabitable for the foreseeable future, not just due to the large-scale destruction of homes and infrastructure, but also the very high risk of further flooding after the failure of the two dams in Wadi Derna.

Rainfall figures from BBC meteorologists put this horrific disaster further in perspective: 414mm of rainfall were recorded in Al-Bayda, near #Derna, in the 24hrs from 8am Sunday to 8am Monday. The average annual rainfall in Benghazi is just 270mm. https://t.co/zL1RARhOyv

#Derna desperately needs international assistance! Estimates are rising into the thousands of dead. #Libya
Given #Prigozhin's apparent demise, re-upping this Guardian piece on the staying power of Wagner ops in Africa.
"There may be some changes at the top" now takes on new meaning. Could this Russian envoy to #Libya have been warning Haftar what was coming?

Indications are that Hamza's release will only bring #Tripoli brief relief from urban warfare. The blocs and rhetoric are already forming towards another destructive showdown.
A clear reminder that the veneer of stability the #GNU is trying to project outwards is wafer thin.
The UN-owned tanker Yemen (formerly Nautica) comes alongside the FSO Safer off Yemen's Red Sea coast. @UNDP has launched its operation to remove over a million barrels of oil from the decaying supertanker and avert a catastrophic natural disaster.

The @UN has begun a complex operation to transfer 1 million barrels of oil from a decaying tanker off the coast of Yemen.
We need to keep working to defuse what remains a ticking time bomb & avoid what would be by far the worst oil spill of our era. https://t.co/36Y3aezKDV
