@cmuratori Haaaaard disagree. When you consider the service they’re providing YouTubers, it dwarfs what those other 70-30 providers are offering (free video streaming to billions of users, for one). And they take a 0% cut on sponsorships. Those other platforms charge fees on everything.
Coding is a subset of software engineering. Yeah, coding was absolutely hard. It’s not anymore.
The “coding was never the hard part” thing is less an insult, and more of a cope to deal with the reality that the thing we spent the most time on (while, yes, maybe not always being hard) takes nearly no time now. So, we can spend time doing the “other” parts of software engineering that are still difficult.
But you can probably expect “software engineering was never the hard part of creating a product” copes in the next couple years. Reductio ad absurdum
@0xPaulius Genuinely curious, how does the game actually feel to play? I’ve played some of these strictly one-shotted games. They always look impressive in a screenshot or even a video, then when I go and play them they feel joyless.
Roblox has lost around $70 billion in value over the past year, with its stock price down 70%
The company blamed a lack of new viral games after disappointing earnings
@kimmonismus I recall that he said during his Dwarkesh interview that he wasn’t sure if “super-intelligence” should still be the be-all and end-all for the company (kind of a crazy thing to say offhand, by the way), so I think people should temper their expectations. But who knows
