Thanks for your replies but my objective is to not fix ONE account. But to wake up @WhatsApp to this and fix this for millions of poor affected users.

@WhatsApp so we try several hours later and it still fails. Presumably the hacker is one step ahead and creates a block (with code to trigger too many attempts) as per the screenshot.

They have cleverly blocked the restoration process @WhatsApp

It might be that this is too early for @WhatsApp to pick this up as serious. But I estimate 10% are falling for this and it is spreading quickly so could easily end up with millions locked out soon.

Lots of our friends and family have fallen for the hackers trick, forwarding the SMS or the 6 digit code to their “friend”.

There is no mention of this on the internet at the moment as if @WhatsApp are unaware of this.

@jk_rowling The need for a definition of a woman (or man) is a new thing. In the good old days we didn’t need one because it was flipping obvious to everyone. Now it’s obvious to MOST people. The definition is only needed for a small minority who don’t seem to understand logic or language.
