Spending millions in tax-dollars to buy and force Bibles in every classroom does not improve Oklahoma’s ranking of 49th in education. The State Superintendent should focus on educating students, not evangelizing them.
@CamSpradling “No room for woke liberals,” means anyone who does not think like @RyanWaltersSupt must leave the state? Wow. I thought they governed all people equally, not tell them there is no room for them. What hate-filled rhetoric.
Everyday Oklahomans are taking action, making a difference by exercising their constitutional right to shape public policy through direct democracy. They are gathering more than 92,263 signatures in just 90 days (deadline July 14) to give all Oklahomans an opportunity to vote on raising the state’s minimum wage to a livable wage.
State Question 832 ties future wage increases to cost-of-living adjustments, a model that has worked well for our neighbors in Missouri.
In Oklahoma, the majority of minimum wage earners are over 25 years old. This measure would help about 230,000 Oklahomans, including around 200,000 women, and benefit an estimated 200,000 children in those households.
Oklahoma is the 8th poorest state in America, ranked 45th in child food insecurity, and worst in the nation for Adverse Childhood Experiences.
SQ 832 raises the minimum wage gradually over five years from the current $7.25. The first increase to $9.00/hr would take effect on January 1, 2025, followed by increases to $10.50 in 2026, $12.00 in 2027, $13.50 in 2028, and finally $15.00/hr in 2029.
(Businesses with less than 10 employees at a single location and total annual revenue under $100,000 would be exempt.)
Starting in 2030, it provides for yearly increases in the minimum wage indexed to the federal Consumer Price Index.
If you haven’t already, there are a few more days to add your signature to SQ832 before the deadline on July 14.
We need at least 92,263 valid voter signatures to get on a statewide ballot.
