I also think they prefer to go for a soft landing in the attempt to keep as much of the ship recoverable as possible.
In my mind, these things don’t add up to do a spin at the last few seconds.
That being said, it’s SpaceX. Maybe they want to see the spin rate they can get in the last 5 seconds to incorporate into their low altitude control planning capabilities.
We may never know. 😉Their current mantra is: test like you fly.
They’re testing everything.
@MrMosis@RyanHansenSpace I would agree with that if it came to a complete standstill at the correct altitude for a catch. I don’t think that happened this time.
I agree with you that the upgrades are amazing and I am extremely thankful for them. No other car company operates as Tesla does.
These are not demands, just things that are important to me, and are frustrations which have been voiced by the community for years.
Tesla chooses to focus their improvements on certain features (grok, car decals in UI) where instead their focus could be on older existing features which are not yet polished. For example: signaling while going into a turning lane, which then incorrectly automatically turns off.
Having a feature rich car is great, but not if the features work at 70% efficiency.
An extreme parallel might be: a poor browser which loads in 10 seconds vs one that loads instantly. They both work, but one is frustrating and should be improved.
Since @tesla does not have a feedback program, this is an appropriate venue. They can use active community feedback to make well informed decisions…hence my post.
Similar to “Joe Mode”.
@Tesla Feedback Request - option to default Bluetooth to the driver, for cars with multiple shared drivers.
Priority device does not work, we are constantly changing back and forth between drivers. The Driver is 98% of the time the person whose device is connected. Thx! ☺️
@DevinOlsenn@aelluswamy@Tesla_AI It’s listening to your order…AND recognizing the items you have received to match your order…AND watching your body language/voice prompts. ……amazing.
Powerful people have done this for eons to benefit themselves. Nothing new there. Elon does it in the open and I think genuinely to better society. Two BIG differences. Would you rather be in the dark (as has historically been)?
If you think otherwise, please cite examples of how Elon will only personally benefit.
I am just a regular guy who loves what you do and tunes in regularly to watch your progress. I am heartbroken at the unscheduled rapid disassembly of IFT-8 today. I can only imagine how you feel after all your hard work. Don't get discouraged, I have no doubt you will figure it out! Keep up the great work!

If the velocity is not high enough to maintain a full orbit, then it is not orbital.
So it depends on their flight plan. I see 3 options (not taking into account your 90min constraint):
1. Achieve enough velocity to circle the earth once and fall back to launch site without deorbit burn. - Not orbital
2. Achieve enough velocity to be able to continue to orbit the earth, but deorbit immediately to return to launch site in one revolution. - Orbital
3. Same as #2, but continue to orbit the earth until they are ready to catch. - Orbital
I believe their flight plan will be #2, with #3 as a contingency safety option incase they are not ready to catch.
