I'm good with giving the student who needed four attempts to demonstrate mastery the same grade as the student who only needed one attempt.
Expecting each student to master the same skill at the same time is akin to asking each student to wear the same size shirt.
As a certified librarian, I taught some fun “Catcher in the Rye” today, practicing 21st skills, while my amazing assistant ran the very crowded circulation desk. We serve 700-800 students a day. Our students need libraries. #wcsdlibraries#WCSDTrustees
When I was a Principal, I LOVED my time in the cafeteria! And in classrooms. You know you have established good routines when students don't "react" when you walk into a classroom--it's just the norm for you to be there. :) #leadupchat
When we have evidence of what works in literacy but refuse to incorporate it in curriculum & instruction, we make a choice to continue the trend of no growth. This is not teachers’ faults. Systemic understanding and change is necessary. @WCSDTweet https://t.co/Pr488H1j5y
Kids know when adults move to frustration level with them. The moment we become condescending or punitive, we begin to separate from them & cause unsafe feelings. When we remain responsive instead of reactive, we make progress. It may be slow, but we’re moving forward.
Some would say administrators should visit classrooms because that is how they can provide “Instructional Leadership.” That may be true. But I think they should be in classrooms, if for no other reason, so they always remember how challenging the work of teaching is. #Support
Today is our 100th day! We had a special guest great grandma Elsey. She gave us the advice to be happy, be nice, and don’t lie! #howl4hves#100thDayofSchool
One of my colleagues sent this to me. Absolutely true if you are to achieve a positive working environment that supports student success. I love Sunset Elementary!
