Sad to say #Cork had an opportunity to lead with South-West Hospital Group controlling #Waterford & South-East @UHW_Waterford for a decade. Cork politics is simply not mature enough. Starved #waterford, @CorkTrauma overmanned & unproductive, trauma- but not in the way they mean!

What a disgusting, anti-doctor headline @gnelis & @businessposthq. To suggest that doctors have a stranglehold on the system & that they’re to blame for its problems is either very poor & inaccurate reporting, or a snide & deliberate tabloid-style attack that helps nobody
@Rheum2improve@HSELive Those who argue "we spend too much already on health" are blissfully unaware of the scale of the infrastructural deficit we have in the HSE.
Hard to think of many services that aren't in a very fragile equilibrium
My hospital is falling down around our ears and bursting at the seams..... and this year we get.......some air vents.
Our ED is mortifying, it has a single toilet for 100 patients, and for another year @HSELive will talk about building better.
I’m not a hospital consultant. I never will be a hospital consultant. But, WHO in their right mind would sign this contract? No matter the job! To be unilaterally moved anywhere in the country at the whim of a manager, given extra work and oh, your wages might change too!
Same #ToxicCulture on display from HSE HR. Disappointing in the extreme and doesn’t bode well for future trust and co-operation (and attracting our consultant colleagues home).
So I actually thought we were going to get an agreed consultant contract?
(Because doctors are not the enemy)
And then I get this in my diary.
This is not how to lead and influence people.
Speaking to @rtenews this evening, IHCA Vice President Prof @annedohertypsy discussed how working conditions in our health service are impacting our ability to sufficiently recruit & retain much needed healthcare professionals. #CareCantWait
1/3 The failures identified in the MHC report have once again highlighted the need for more specialists in the mental health services & come as little surprise to consultants working on the frontline on a daily basis. https://t.co/UwJmRx9Hra
I am definitely failing the 'God' bit of being a consultant and I am held accountable for everything, from the waiting room to the ED, to the wards, to the parking.
Feel free to come walk a mile in my shoes if you want to address your fixed beliefs and biases.
‘The consultant is God - and Gods don’t do accountability’. Having audited outcomes of (almost) every mother I have delivered and every woman I have operated on I find this comment crass, offensive and insulting. IT - why this anti-medical rhetoric?
