CCC PLAN FOR ITS CANDIDATES IN BULAWAYO TO SUBMIT NOMINATION PAPERS TOGETHER IN THE AFTERNOON AS A GROUP COLLAPSED

Just before the Nomination Court in Bulawayo closed at 4 pm on 21 June 2023, @citezw spoke to Sichelesile Mahlangu outside the Nomination Court where she was waiting for other CCC candidates she was to go in with but who were nowhere to be seen. Ms Mahlangu – who was contesting for the Pumula constituency seat – was the first and the only one among CCC’s 12 candidates to submit her nomination paper at 5:00 pm, well after the Nomination Court had closed at 4 pm.

Tellingly, Ms Mahlangu says CCC candidates had agreed to submit their nomination papers in the afternoon together as a group of CCC’s 12 constituency candidates in Bulawayo province. But in the end, she submitted her nomination all by herself, alone at 5 pm.

The next candidate to submit a nomination paper after Ms Mahlangu, Desire Moyo, submitted FIVE AND A HALF HOURS later at 22:30 pm; followed by Watson Nicola at 22:35 pm, Minehle Gumede at 22:36 pm, Dereck Gono 22:40 pm and Raphael Sibanda at 22:43 pm.

It is crystal clear from Ms Mahlangu’s incontrovertible narration that CCC’s plan to go in the afternoon as the whole one group of 12 at the same time, simply did not materialise because it collapsed.
Below is the English translation of the conversation between a @citezw reporter and Ms Mahlangu, which is on the attached video clip.

REPORTER: There’s no one among you who has filed their nomination papers, what is going on?

SICHELESILE MAHLANGU: They (CCC candidates) know that we were supposed to file in the afternoon, that was our agreement; that we would file our papers in the afternoon. Our papers were ready, the selection process had been done and completed. But there was something between us that we wanted to attend to first, and to make sure that every candidate had all the necessary documents, we were waiting for some of our colleagues to do the needful as you know there are requirements like photos; we wanted to ensure that we file our papers together at the same time.

REPORTER: In the morning some CCC members were here, complaining that the selection process was not fair, and they were talking about considering standing as independents.

SICHELESILE MAHLANGU: Everyone has a right, CCC members know that the selection process and its stages were transparent, everyone was told that no one declares themselves a candidate until the independent panel from our national office makes pronounces the outcome. We did not do primaries we had a consensus process, but we did not have any problem with anyone who did not agree with the process and who preferred standing as an independent, in the hope of getting something out of that. So, we don’t stop anyone because we are a people's movement, candidates are selected by citizens.

REPORTER: So, given the time, do you think the candidates will manage to complete all the requirements of the nomination process on time?

SICHELESILE MAHLANGU: Yes, they will complete all the processes because all their nomination papers are ready, there’s nothing amiss, everything is ready. What remains is for us to go in together to file our papers.

REPORTER: On nomination fees, what’s your position, did the candidates manage to raise the nomination fees?

SICHELESILE MAHLANGU: Yes, the party gave the candidates money to pay for the nomination fees because it is the duty of the party to make sure that all the candidates have the money for them to submit their nomination papers. But as CCC we don’t agree with the levels of the fees because we don’t think candidates should pay such high nomination fees, which even if one gets to Parliament, they won't earn such money in two months or two years!
