And the premise is already stale. Last two D-I titles: Olentangy Liberty, Olentangy Orange. Last three D-II: Massillon, Avon, Avon.

Meanwhile D-IV through D-VII since 2017: non-publics are 0 for 36.

6. A split ends Competitive Balance after 2027-28, cuts the field for every trophy roughly in half, and cheapens the hardware on both sides — to solve a Division I problem that is already shrinking on its own. Ohio rejected this in 1978 and in 1993. Reject it again.

5. The winningest Ohio football program of the last 50 years is Marion Local — public district, Mercer County, 15 titles. Coldwater, Kirtland, Versailles, St. Henry: all public. Nobody is being locked out.
