the biggest appeal of handheld consoles to me is using them to play games made specifically for the hardware! unfortunately technology has progressed to the point where it is no longer necessary to make games specifically for handheld systems and this makes me very very sad
@greenyphatom all they can really do at this point is keep cramming newer tech into these things in a futile attempt to keep up with the rising spec requirements of video games in the modern age. quite sad
@StrykerM10 the thing with those types of ports is that, compared to the majority of games coming out on home consoles at the time of their release, they were often still leagues behind in terms of visual fidelity. so they still felt distinctly like “handheld” experiences in my opinion
@grandnozomi good point... i've been playing on my ds a lot recently and there's still so many games i could play, nice benefit of playing on an older system
i have no interest in playing home console games on a handheld system because more often than not it's just a compromised experience compared to actually playing them on the home consoles they were designed for
