@au_tom_otive I’m glad that’s been your experience today, but it’s not been mine over recent months. I think I have about a 50% success rate of charging when I stop at services on road trips, and that’s been over the winter!
@cyclegaz Turbo mode on my cargo bike is terrifying if I’m not towing or carrying any weight, so I normally have it in Sport mode, or Tour if it’s cold and I want to work to warm up a bit
@Guard_Amos @VaramisBHI @RailVaramis According to RTT it has first and standard class seating! Do some parcels get a coffee brought to them during the journey?
@Chris_Hill321 @jamesbinns81 @sarah_go_green This also explains my lacklustre results when it’s been sunny ahead of an evening saving session; even if my overall day’s usage has been high and my usage time-shifted is quite high it doesn’t translate to ££ if it’s been a sunny afternoon
@Chris_Hill321 @jamesbinns81 @sarah_go_green Well, that’s only true if it’s a straight multiplier, which is what I’m trying to determine here. If, for example, the IDA figure is adjusted for the typical ratio between the sampling period and the saving session then it’s not as clearly worthwhile - or may be more so!
@Chris_Hill321 @jamesbinns81 @sarah_go_green Ah ha! That’s good to be clear on. And any idea about how the IDA fits into formula? Is it a straight multiplier?
@Chris_Hill321 @jamesbinns81 @sarah_go_green So if I normally use 1kW during that period and I make it 2kW, then my IDA factor is 2. Does that simply mean my saving session “saving”
is doubled? Or is it more complicated than that? (2/2)
@Chris_Hill321 @jamesbinns81 @sarah_go_green So in order to work out whether it’s worth it, you need to know how the IDA is used and compare that to my unit rate (vs, for example, time-shifting load to overnight on Go, or sunny days for the solar). E.g. if there’s a saving session 5-6pm, the IDA period is 2-5, right? (1/n)
@Chris_Hill321 @jamesbinns81 @sarah_go_green Is it definitely 4 hours before? My best result was when I charged my EV overnight before the session but that was 12 hours prior
@au_tom_otive It seems like an oversimplification to lump all “public charging” together. It doesn’t matter if there’s a spare charger at a hotel in Glasgow if I’m pulling into motorway services in Staffordshire with 50 miles range left and a grumpy baby who’ll mean I’m spending 30 mins there
