All I'm saying is, and it's very simple, it's either Atherstone. Ball. Game. or the Provisional IRA, there is no middle ground and you have to chose right now or a Protestant will drown a cat
Brutal end to Atherstone Ball Game 2023. The last half an hour of the Pancake Day tradition saw punches thrown & a betting shop damaged as teams battled to gain control of an oversized ball.
Meh, I'm tuning out, having a political debate for a nonpolitical role, having a debate at all, why? It's just aping the Americans but without the actual job at the end of it. Should be a kind of addresses the nation format, each gets 5/10 minutes with q's at the end #TonightVMTV
“When Cu Chulainn’s foes came for the last time against him, his land was filled with smoke and flame, and the day of his death drew nigh. The evil tidings were brought to him.”
“After meeting on a road, Cú Chulainn was mortally wounded. Refusing to die lying down, he crawled to a nearby stone and bound himself to it. In this way, he died standing up with his sword in hand like the warrior he was.
Such was the fear of him, it took three days before anyone would approach his body. After these days, the Morrigan, Goddess of birth and death, took the form of a raven and perched on his shoulder. This act signalled the end of Cú Chulainn’s life.”
@alt_historian@bad_histories Worth pointing out that the guys in grey on the right are the armed response unit or the Gardaí, the Irish national police force, I assume he couldn't find enough cool guys with guns pictures to use.
Anyway, know what would be funny? If our entire reality was just a long cold opening for a Monty Python episode, none of us are real, everyone and everything is just a tediously written joke of attrition and our existence will abruptly come to end and when your man says...
@AliceAvizandum The big problem with this here in Ireland in the 19th-c, Temperance Tea Rooms did indeed lead to a sudden drop in alcohol consumption and... a massive spike in ether sales, I mean it's not alcohol pre-say, and who doesn't take 2 sugars, lot of milk and a little splash of ether.
@BridNiGroovy And people would rather believe a man is so evil he just stabbed kids, rather than we have multiple crisis going on at once that are compounded and there is an inevitable horrific act
@BMWK A lot of analysis of German support for the murderous Israeli revenge on civilians assumes its misplaced holocaust guilt. But perhaps a better explanation is the mauling Germany received from partisan forces in WW2 and that grandpas standard response was to massacre civilians
I’m shocked at the rhetoric and actions of so many Western leaders & governments, with the exception in particular of Ireland’s government, who for once are doing the right thing. War crimes are war crimes even when committed by allies, and should be called out for what they are.
