@RowlyPaul Thing is we need a full review and change. I agree there is so much we could do better but we also need to look at what data we actually want! We keep very small parts and throw away the detail that can be used by all disciplines as well as real background detail.
@RowlyPaul Been involved in a non-HS2 context and you do not need to take that route! Some systems like to be able to manufacture in their own country.
@RowlyPaul Yep. We just used to wrap tape in close clearances. The theory behind it is that flying birds can bridge the clearance gap but I have seen no historic evidence that there is a significant problem needing to be solved.
@RowlyPaul 🤣 can officially put GSOH in your bio now… it was a recent discussion with younger designers the lack of design detail for S&C was highlighted (again).
@RowlyPaul In some of the incident reviews I have done in my time a lot of the issue has been logistics. You can source materials from most places when it’s taking 9-15 hours to actually get an SRS on track and to site…
@NoelDolphin@GarethDennis I was at the Single Rod NS when we ran a live pan in - forgetting that this was a test location and no-one had actually adjusted the protection settings. The following 3 seconds seemed much longer at the time…
@KeithTheGooner Well up for it but I got married in 2013 so a) can you make my belly go back in and b) give me a hairdo less embarrassing than Gervinho?
@RowlyPaul@neilwirving It is driven via the client as well. Deliverables now are the same as in the 1970s. They look prettier, but we have not caught up or embraced any technological advantage. I attempt to change this on all jobs but we always spring back to what people know.
@RowlyPaul@neilwirving Change = unknown and most people are not brave enough to see the benefits. The risk of reputation against real change scares most people. I think that failing and learning in these processes would be a greater benefit.
