@qvcfan5442@alelliott88 Butt was good and disrupted Veron, but the Argentina game changed massively when Hargreaves got injured early on and Scholes moved inside from the left.
@D__Melb@TedNeath Agreed. Southgate struggled to find the balance. We scored loads in 2022 but got caught out by a France team who were on the ropes, and then were turgid and cautious in 2024. But still got to the final. We lionise Italia 90 and we only reached a semi, while also playing horribly.
@D__Melb@TedNeath 2022 was easy, but 2021 was awkward and we ended up top with 9 points. And historically, England have struggled to win the group - 1998 second to Romania, 2010
second to USA. Southgate deserves credit for getting that part right, imo.
@D__Melb@TedNeath But we got those kind draws from winning the groups - with the exception of 2018 where we came second to a very strong Belgium and rested everyone in the final game to take the pathway that had opened up a bit. Sven’s England came second to Sweden in 2002 and France in 2004.
@potterscope_ The only news story here is that he’s in the 26, which isn’t really a surprise as he’s the most senior of the four reserves and Rice will still be out the squad. That’s the only reason he’s “in line” - no indication he starts.
@Ydahellnah@WhatTheForkAVFC Wrong again. Saka is English, as is Harry Kane, as is Hargreaves. I’ve got no doubt you’ve googled these people as I don’t think you give a shit about football or the England team, it’s just a vehicle for your ethno-nationalism.
I’m done with you, enjoy your day
@Ydahellnah@WhatTheForkAVFC That’s not a straw man; I’ve described Bukayo Saka, who meets every criteria I’ve described and yet isn’t English enough for you.
The England national team is made up of English nationals, and nationality is a complex mix of birthplace, upbringing and parenthood.
@Ydahellnah@WhatTheForkAVFC So a lad born in England, who spends their whole life here, speaks English, is raised in the English education system and considers himself English…is less English than a white lad??
We know what you are.
@AshPrimeDCFC@Ydahellnah@WhatTheForkAVFC I’m glad it’s not your argument, because the first premise is wrong. It is a “national team” and nationality is a complex mix of birthplace, upbringing and parents. No one would be able to play for any one country under this premise as we are all a mixture of identities.
@Ydahellnah@WhatTheForkAVFC And is your justification for that skin colour? Because, if a British-born footballer was raised by Nigerian parents, who would speak English as first language, their country was shaped by the Empire, their religion was Protestant. But they’d be less British than Livramento?
@Fagnetic_@WhatTheForkAVFC So you’ve just made an arbitrary cut off for names that you think are English. So you couldn’t have any Richards, or Williams or Roberts because they were brought over by the Normans? Don’t try and justify your bollocks
Forest Villa was my first live match in 1999. My dad wanted me to be able to choose between the team he loves and the city we live in. I chose Forest. We’ve seen this game in the Premier League and the Championship, seen screamers from legends like Lolley, McGinn and… #nffc 1/3.
