The story of RockAsphalt doesn’t begin in a lab. It begins on a Texas ranch in the 1800s, when rancher J.G. Smyth tried to dig a simple fence post—and struck something as good as gold.

Beneath a layer of Anacacho limestone, Smyth uncovered naturally oil-infused rock. Over time, bitumen had seeped into the stone, creating a rare blend with the perfect composition for building roads. Thinking on his feet, J.G. tossed the stone into muddy cattle pens and let the livestock do the compaction.
