Again, the problem is that the authorities wait until people’s livelihoods depend on these places before taking action.

We have a poverty problem in this country. People are constantly finding ways to earn a living. When you allow them to settle and build their livelihoods, only to demolish everything later, you push them back into the same cycle of poverty.

But @amoah_citizen also made a very good point: this isn’t a one-sided issue. We must also look at the people responsible for ensuring these things don’t happen in the first place. Some are underpaid, poorly supervised and unmotivated to do their jobs properly.

That doesn’t remove their responsibility, but it points to a bigger problem we must address. Fair wages, proper supervision and accountability must go hand in hand. Otherwise, we keep repeating the same cycle, and people’s livelihoods pay the price.
