Alberta NDP leader, Naheed Nenshi @nenshi, says we need to threaten the U.S. with an export tax on Alberta’s oil and gas to create leverage in trade negotiations with the Americans.

An export tax on Alberta oil to the U.S. would literally put over hundred thousand Albertans out of work almost overnight and decimate our economy across the board - not to mention the probable US retaliation of cutting off Line 5 fuel to Ontario and Quebec.

It would be like punching ourselves in the face.

Unlike the Nenshi NDP, I will protect Albertans’ jobs and livelihoods.

So let me be clear: an export tax on Alberta oil and gas or the halting of supply to the U.S. is not going to happen…period. Full stop. It’s not on the table nor will it be on the table in the future.

I will continue with the diplomatic approach that has resulted in 97% of Alberta exports remaining tariff free, and continue to work with the many and growing number of elected U.S. officials and other allies that are working diligently to end the tariff dispute between our two great nations.

This is a 40 year timelapse of Wood River Refinery in 🇺🇸 Illinois. You can tell it didn't change much in 40 years. But here is the thing ! something changed ! A new four-drum coker unit, part of Wood River Refinery's Coker and Refinery Expansion (CORE) was completed in November 2011. And it's super important, see the highlighted sentences!

The complex is capable of refining 173,000 bbl/d. Oil is supplied from Canada, and domestic sources through pipelines. The facility produces 85,000 barrels per day (13,500 m3/d) of gasoline along with 70,000 barrels per day (11,000 m3/d) of distillates (diesel and aviation fuel), along with petrochemical feedstocks, asphalt, and coke.
The new coker has a capacity of 75,000 barrels per day and is expected to expand the capacity to handle the bitumen from the Alberta oil sands by nearly 700%. The new Wood River coker's processing capacity is approximately 200,000 - 220,000 barrels per day. The CORE project took about three years to build, with a total cost of US $3.8 billion (US $1.9 billion to Cenovus), and has increased clean product yield by 5% to approximately 85%. The expansion was undertaken specifically to handle heavy oil imported from Alberta. Carney wants you Canada Pension Fund in light of lack of investment into Canada!

Carney wants to steer CPP money into federal infrastructure and nation-building projects.

That’s Albertans retirement savings being directed by Ottawa politicians for their priorities.

Alberta already pays billions more into CPP than we get back.

An Alberta Pension Plan would let us control our own fund, keep investment returns here, and protect our money from federal political agendas.

We need our own APP now.

@RiseOfAlberta @LetABDecide Vote option 2. Every Albertan has some level of dissatisfaction with the current relationship with Canada. Option 2 allows the required amount of time to evaluate what independence involves, not to mention a clear message that Alberta is seriously changing the relationship.
