Tracy Chapman — who hasn’t performed live in years — just sang “Fast Car” on stage with Luke Combs at the Grammy’s.
The backstory behind this collaboration is incredible.
Combs’ first favourite song ever was “Fast Car”. He covered it in early 2023 as a country version and the song hit #1 on country charts in July.
Chapman owns the song’s composition rights and became the first black female to top the Country chart as a sole writer.
What did she think of the cover?
Chapman told Billboard at the time: “I never expected to find myself on the country charts, but I’m honored to be there. I’m happy for Luke….and grateful that new fans have found and embraced ‘Fast Car.’”
Combs honored the original version, which he first listened to when his dad popped a cassette in the car.
“You want to just be mega respectful of the original song,” says the 33-year old country singer, per CMT. “That’s why in [my cover], it’s, ‘work in the market as a checkout girl.’ I didn’t change that…I really wanted to just do the original version of the song.”
Them performing it together tonight is perfection.

It’s now 12 years since 2 hotel employees, Sandip Moneea & Avinash Treebhoowoon murdered Michaela in our hotel room during our honeymoon. We still push for and expect justice, but we are still waiting @MauritiusPM @SeeMauritius#justiceformichaela
Imagine the free books scheme won't be free after all, just like the free primary school system that we're supposed to have.
I'm sure the Department will change this to "enhanced School Book Grant scheme" instead of lying and saying it will be free.

This may be the most important tweet you read this week. Teachers and SNAs should use this as a template. This isn't about teachers wanting to do less work, it's about ensuring that our children receive the supports they're entitled to. We can't be part of the failure of HSE
Thank you all so much for the many kind messages today. I was nervous about sharing my journey as I truly loved my 10 years with @Glencullen_NS
& all the wonderful people. It was the system that broke me. The role of principal is just not sustainable.

In Australia, this football team just won the league championship.
Their captain went into the stands to get their waterboy, who has Down's Syndrome, so they could celebrate together.

This is important. It's also astonishing that parent and advocacy groups didn't as much whimper about it. Classes will again be split when a teacher is out. When a class is split, children get babysat, not taught. I can't understand how they don't get angry at the DoE about this.
@simonmlewis Pre-covid, myself and my colleagues would haul ourselves to work regardless of how we felt to avoid burdening each other with extra numbers in our already overcrowded classrooms. That would be considered irresponsible now. We desperately need sub cover.
