‼️New pub alert‼️ Woke up to see this out today in @SocialMedia_Soc! In this study, we seek to understand disclosure among those with intersecting stigmas in Mumbai. This work also brought me to India last year where I finally got to meet our wonderful collaborators in-person!
Had such a great time at #AOIR2024 with my @NU_SoC crew! So grateful for the meaningful conversations that push my work forward and make me appreciate being an academic. See you in Rio #AOIR2024!
@MishaTeplitskiy Nice review! You might also like "Making Nature," which covers the history of Nature journal. Some overlap between the two, but gets more into the internal politics of (prestige) journals.
Excited to be at #AoIR2024 this weekend! I’ve organized the panel on "Misinformation, Conspiracy, & the Politicization of Digitally Mediated Science."
Join us tomorrow at 9:00 am to explore how digital spaces are shaping (mis)understandings of science!
New publication alert! 🚨
Scientific retractions are increasingly being spun into conspiracies about science on social media. Agnes Horvat and I document this worrying trend in the context of COVID-19.

@b_penders 8) A creative solution: Sergio Sismondo suggests that science could reduce the influence of pharmaceuticals in science if publishers agreed to (temporarily?) limit industry submissions to science journals.
5) What do retractions do for science credibility? @Maarten_Derksen points out that corrections may undermine more foundational tenants of scientific practice. Calls to mind @zephoria's Jenga tower.
4) Is transparency always desirable? @NicoleCNelson argues that describing the reasons for retraction won't necessarily convince skeptical audiences of the legitimacy of the retraction.
@STSeasst 2) Replication crisis is based in part on a familiar STS issue. Does the replication fail because of the original study was wrong, or because the replication methods were?
@STSeasst 1) Retractions are up, but not necessarily because academic fraud is up; probably because scrutiny of science is increasing (I agree with this).
@MaxRossmann @STSeasst@_Nano_Bubbles I'll be there! Similarly, I'm presenting research on retractions on Tuesday at 10:30 that you may be interested in (Panel P089).
Who all is going to the 4S/EASST @STSeasst conference this week? Looking for suggestions for talks that I should attend! And if you're around, come see my presentation on retraction conspiracies on Tuesday at 10:30 (Panel P089)!
