A lot of chess study is the musical equivalent of "In this 3-bar passage of this sonata by Mozart, guess which note the soprano sings next". So, many chess players walk around armed to the teeth with those far-off solutions.
@TakeTakeTakeApp@lichess I find this playing experience addictive. A few bugs:
Sometimes the coach doesn’t say anything. Idk, unremarkable game? Also, I was trying to see one of GM Howell’s games, at first I could see the moves, but after navigating away, the moves did not display, only arrows.
@TakeTakeTakeApp@lichess It would be cool if after a session you could retrieve a summary, like “today, you were sharp tactically, but ignored your opponents chances in the endgame while you were low on time. This happened in 3 of your games {game list for review}.”
@TakeTakeTakeApp@Assios One other suggestion: an ability to adjust the reading level. The vocab is fine for me, but might be a minor obstacle for my son.
Mel Gibson drops a raw, existential gut-punch in this 44-second clip:
“Why are the big realms of good and evil slugging it out for the souls, the hearts and souls of mankind? Why are we the meat in that sandwich? Little old us. Flawed us. Imperfect us. Why is that about us?”
He’s wrestling with the deepest question of all: why do the cosmic forces of good and evil seem locked in battle over ordinary, broken human beings like you and me?
No easy answers. Just honest searching — with faith, imagery, sound, and music as his tools to chase the truth.
In a world drowning in noise, this hits like a thunderclap.
What do you think — are we really the prize in some eternal war of good vs. evil, or is that too big a story for little old us?
These comparisons are a little too binary for me, but I may be a real outlier with a converted 165 verbal and 157 quant humanities DM. Interestingly, on the SAT way back in 1993 I was 95-98 percentile with elite math "potential" and 75th percentile verbal. I'm just weird though
Physics students score higher on the verbal GRE portion than humanities students, because intelligence is mostly one-dimensional and physics attracts more intelligent people on average.
