Half of you are paying for servers you don't need.

I've spent months telling you to colo in Ireland and chase 6ms round trips to the CLOB.

That's still true.

For maybe 10% of you.

Here is the part I never spelled out:

Latency only matters when you are racing another bot for the same fill.

Sweepers fighting for queue position.
Ladder bots fighting for that first microsecond at window open.
Scalpers reacting tick by tick.

For those, every millisecond is a fill someone else just took from you.

But that is not what most of you run.

If your bot picks a direction at open and holds to resolution - latency does almost nothing.

You are not first in line.

You are just in line.

A 15m window doesn't care if your order landed in 6ms or 200ms.

The hold is the edge, not the fill.

Same with pre-window accumulation.

Place a GTC bid hours early and sit on it.

Nobody out-races an order that's been resting since the window opened 24h ago.

And the rust obsession is mostly cope.

The CLOB sits behind a 20ms processing delay.

Your rust backend saves maybe 0.5ms on serialization.

Presign your orders and even that disappears.

20ms eats your half a millisecond and laughs.

So before you rent a colo box, ask one thing:

Does your bot need to be filled BEFORE the next guy?

Or does it just need to be filled?

If it's the second one - you're burning money on infrastructure your strategy can't even feel.

And don't forget about backtesting.

This is the most important step in bot building.
