For me, Danielle Smith’s comments were perfectly clear and required no clarification or correction.
She represented her base perfectly and vocalized the mass stupidity that she represents and leads eloquently and directly.
She is who they are.
Danielle Smith expressed concerns about how the unvaccinated were treated. I can personally assure her that we treated all of them in the ICU during the delta wave with kindness, dignity and respect, even while some of their families called us murderers and threatened our lives.
Of the things I could say, I choose to focus on demonstrating to this premier the work that our city continues to do around anti-racism, Indigenous relations, Holocaust remembrance, allyship with the LGBTQ2S+ community & equity-based awareness. In other words, work that matters.
So. The leader of my province, @ABDanielleSmith, on her first official workday, said that unvaccinated people were "the most discriminated against group that I've ever witnessed in my lifetime." @ABDanielleSmith was born in April 1971.
I am calling on the members of the @Alberta_UCP to denouce this conspiracy theory-addled Premier's words today. I don't think any of them will, because why would they? It's not like they care about any of the people I've mentioned.
Indigenous folks, immigrants & newcomers, women, queer and trans folks, Jewish folks, Black folks, Asian folks, Muslims and Hindus and many others: *these* people face actual discrimination and oppression. @ABDanielleSmith kicked dirt in all their faces. On her first day at work.

We live in a province where the same people who scream at a Prime Minister for bungee jumping on vacation are celebrating a Premier for saying the unvaccinated are the most victimized people in history.
I hate it here.

#DanielleSmith: the unvaccinated are "the most discriminated group that I've ever witnessed in my lifetime."
Ugh.
1) Really?
2) Vaccines choice ≠ immutable characteristic.
3) Choices have consequences?

A comment proving that Smith has no understanding of the province she wants to lead, or the struggles of the diverse people who call Alberta home. Terrible. #ableg
And with this Ms Smith has flown her flag for all to see. She is a bigot and a liar intent on disrupting our social fabric enough to consolidate her power with no intent to lead. Given her fringe views and libellous rhetoric she is a danger to the common good. She is poison.
We have heard a lot of offensive things from the UCP over the last 3 years, but this…this is deeply offensive on a level I didn’t know they could sink to. #ableg
