For what it's worth (very little these days alas), I'm thrilled to see Josephine Rowe's excellent and terribly under-appreciated Little World on the Miles Franklin longlist - hope it wins!!!
I don't want to alarm anyone, but Wayne Marshall's historical/literary/speculative romp, Henry Goes Bush, is at large and roaming the countryside. Track down a copy however you can.
@NotRobSimmons@steve_l15 I think there's a genuine case to be made that he should be a Wallabies RWC last-20 specialist. How many times has he turned games?
@steve_l15 Love it! This is the kind of content that justifies the Internet's continued existence. I don't think it's possible to overstate how impressive a win this was. Hopefully can form a psychological bedrock for a big, big season.
@haribaldijones@MegafoonRugby@LekkerRugbyPod Don't get caught up with notions of delayed gratification and future reward. In the long run, we are all dead. This Sunday afternoon just gone, for at least 2 hours, the Brumbies were the best rugby team in the world!
Drought breakers.
The Brumbies have beaten the Crusaders 50-24 in Christchurch to end a 26 year drought!
Famous victory.
Bravo to Stephen Larkham, his coaching team and the players.
Slipper, Valetini, Cale + unsung hero Andy Muirhead first class. Complete performance.
@ARenardson@JohnBFergo Yep, I got this, too after 45 minutes. Now I'm hedging my bets by getting in the queue on 2 different devices. But, also, getting hungry/grumpy/hangry!
Rugby positions explained:
1,2&3 nice wee chubby guys. One of them has to be brainy. Often a GP.
4&5: the two tall ones. One has to be brainy. They take turns each at being sin binned.
6,7&8: two of them are called flankers and look normal ish. One of them is called the number 8. Not sure which.
9 wee jolly guy. Likes to kick the ball straight in the air.
10 brains, nice hair, knows roughly what’s going on
11&14 fast, tries not to get too involved
12&13 two actual athletes who have got involved by accident
15 big show off, boots it, catches it, boots it again
Many thanks to Emma Rayward and Meanjin(!) for this thoughtful review of Here Are My Demands. All my world-building was not for nothing! (And now I'm inspired to go harder in my next spec-fic effort...) https://t.co/v2LC3bZFGh
This weekend, the Australian Short Story Festival is on in Adelaide. It's always a great vibe, so get along if you can. I'll be moderating a couple of sessions. On Saturday night, there's a 'Complaint Letters' event that should be good fun. More here: https://t.co/yZSi84zOeg
I would definitely listen to a podcast about the Adelaide-Glenelg tram line hosted by a former Federal MP, entitled -- and imagine this being spoken in the host's distinctive voice -- 'The Fine Line with Christopher Pyne'.
@steve_l15 A lot of yen -- but I for one accept the charges! If he can get his hands on the ball, Corey should get some space out there this weekend...
