The future of UI is not the lack of UI, but smart UI. Smart interfaces show what you need to see in the best way in the right time. The value of AI will be invisible.
Wait, Jacob Coxon has only three years of experience in AI research? Everyone is freaking out because of the opinion of a junior developer? Crazy times.
Why pay for x when you could build x?
First of all: AI is not free. It will cost you at least 20 bucks a month when the service could cost you 10.
Second: it takes time, resource and patience to build anything useful.
Third: just because you can doesn’t mean you should.
@wtkprol@thsottiaux One question: did these companies trained their model only with data from American people? Or they used data and knowledge from everyone around the world?
Voice is nice. But the real thing will be a great UI powered by underlying intelligence. We did not get there yet. Voice is not much different than typing; it requires basically the same skill: one needs to know what to ask.
More capable models are a good thing, but we are entering an era where these models' prices are prohibitive for people like me. Unfortunately, people or companies with resources have some real advantages here. The dream of small companies to catch up will continue to be a dream.
To calibrate you all on which reasoning effort to use for Astra, know that GPT-6 Astra on low performs better than GPT-5.6 Sol on high.
If you were using high reasoning efforts with Sol and were happy, I suggest you move down to low or medium for Astra.
