🚨 More details from Premier League statement on Manchester City.

The independent Commission found that Manchester City arranged ‘sham’ commercial deals with a number of its sponsors during the period, which were part of a disguised funding scheme, whereby those companies were only required to pay a portion of the relevant sponsorship fees. The remainder was funded by Abu Dhabi United Group Investment & Development Ltd (ADUG), which owned the club. As part of the scheme, further ‘sham’ arrangements, funded by ADUG, were entered into to enable the club to record lower operating expenses than it actually incurred, as well as a ‘sham’ circular arrangement with Fordham, an entity that purchased the club’s players’ image rights, that was funded by ADUG.

The purpose of these schemes was found to have been to artificially inflate the club’s revenues, and reduce its costs, by more than £900 million during the affected period, to appear to comply with financial rules. The consequence of this, as the Commission found, was that the club filed misstated accounts and concealed the true state of its finances from its auditors and football regulators. The Commission concluded that ‘by its conduct the club clearly intended to circumvent the PL Rules‘.

As a result, Manchester City failed to accurately report its income and expenditure for the purposes of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules and UEFA’s Club Licensing and Financial Fair Play Rules. The Commission found that, had all of the relevant agreements been reported accurately in the club’s accounts, it would have been in breach of both the League’s and UEFA’s spending limits by a very substantial amount.

Relegating City wouldn’t simply mean 20th place becoming 21st.

City generated £694.1M in revenue in 2024/25. Take them out of the Premier League, and the consequences could reach broadcasting, sponsorships, matchday revenue, player contracts, recruitment and the club’s entire commercial structure.

Then look at the Premier League itself.

No more City vs United.
No more City vs Liverpool.
No more City vs Arsenal.
No more City vs Chelsea.
Some of the biggest fixtures in English football would disappear from the league calendar.

And the impact wouldn't stop at football.
Manchester has an entire matchday economy built around City: hotels, restaurants, transport, hospitality, security, retail and employment.

This is why the Manchester City case is bigger than one club.

The Premier League has to protect the integrity of its rules.

But if the ultimate punishment is relegation, the consequences could reach far beyond the Etihad.

The question isn't simply what happens to Manchester City.

It's what happens to English football when one of its biggest clubs is removed from the Premier League.

「灘高なら200位ぐらいでも偏差値40ぐらいあるでしょうってのは褒めてるよね？

と不思議がっておられたので、
勝手ながら確認しました。

灘高に入るには偏差値78程度必要。

灘高で学年200位だと下位10%に含まれると考えられ、
偏差値は低くても65程度はあると考えられます。(河合塾調べ)

過去に灘高で170位だったが東大理系に合格したと公表している医師が存在しているため、
200位でも一般より偏差値は高いと考えられる。

偏差値40の高校、
例として堀大輔の出身校、兵庫県立武庫荘総合高等学校・旧称兵庫県立武庫荘高等学校　(現在の偏差値45程度)の高校からは、
東大合格者は出ていません。

東大合格が全てではありませんが、
少なくとも
「灘高なら200位でも偏差値40はあるだろ？
褒めてるんだけど？」
と言うのは、とても失礼です。

(少なくとも偏差値65程度はあると推測されるため)

人生は偏差値が全てではない。
東大に入れば勝ちでもない。
偏差値78でも本人が希望して偏差値40程度の高校に行くこともあるかもしれない。

でも、数字で見るなら、
灘高の200位は、一般的に見ると偏差値がかなり高い。

よって、
「偏差値40の高校のレベルって、灘高の200位ぐらいだろ？
憶測だけど」

は、失礼です。
