Warning from Apple to Canada on Bill C-22 "As you know, this may be one of the last times we're permitted to discuss the consequences of this legislation publicly."
"That's because of the bill's secrecy provisions which forbid companies like Apple from even discussing the orders we receive with our users or the public." @Apple
Some people are starting to notice the speed-of-development of Anthropic (say, vs. OpenAI)...
It's because they focused on software-dev AI models first, and then started using them internally for accelerated release.
Genius move if this was, indeed, their strategy to outcompete
Today, we’re releasing a feature that allows Claude to control your computer: Mouse, keyboard, and screen, giving it the ability to use any app.
I believe this is especially useful if used with Dispatch, which allows you to remotely control Claude on your computer while you’re away.
This is a terrible mistake to do this. Will make it a lot less likely to get the economy back on track. People who can think around corners know exactly how this will be applied. Just look at the UK.
@yanhua1010@perplexity_ai@grok Hey @grok - more specifically, what are similarities/diffs if claude cowork is on an always-on computer with scheduled tasks (other than perplexity’s model agnosticism)?
@harleyf@build_canada That's great news. Well done Shopify on helping the govt on this. This has been a pet peeve of mine for years.
Let's hope it gets implemented soon!
@ttmygh a little irony that 80% of the responses to this post are clearly spam/bots
the bots should at least have decency to avoid posts complaining about bots...
@harleyf@Shopify@MidDaySquares@hootsuite Love your positivity Harley, and you are right.
When we started @latermedia, we had to go to the US for capital - if we can improve and incentivize Canada’s (smart) capital… enormous potential
🎉 April marks 13 years of Launch!
What started with just a few desks and a bold idea has grown into a global community of thousands of tech entrepreneurs. Our spaces may change, but our mission stays the same: supporting founders.
Thanks for being part of the journey! 💥
@jonkay@TristinHopper Welcome Jon. If you're driving in to Van tomorrow, you should try and stop for a round of DG at Raptors Knoll (https://t.co/NOMwNXIG1m) - was ranked #33 in world last year
This is what universal, single-payer healthcare looks like. It actually is what socialism in anything looks like.
Doctor lines are the new bread lines.
@RWMaloneMD If you liked Shogun, I’m sure you will like Andor. Suspenseful political thriller set in the Star Wars universe (pre Rogue One) - but atypically excellent for the new Star Wars stuff: https://t.co/5cqG3zk6tT
Hi Grant - he is as he appears. Unfortunately he also has a Machiavellian desire and ability to consolidate and hold onto power.
Too many examples to list all, but his opportunistic use of the fear surrounding COVID in 2021 to call an early election and stay in power is a prime one
@joelgascoigne Well done Joel. That kind of tenacity is rare, and bodes well for you and Buffers future.
(Also think your down-market focus is a smart way to go)
I remember growing up, watching Rex Murphy’s editorials on CBC. His evident wit, mastery of the English language, and straight-backed willingness to delve into the unpopular issues that everyone else feared to touch - left me in awe of the man. Canada lost a great man yesterday
I first saw Rex Murphy on TV as an undergraduate student in Nova Scotia back in the late 90s/early 2000s. He defined what Canada was for me. And never in my wildest imagination would I have thought that many years later, he would became a friend, mentor and my biggest booster.
We would meet over "snacks" in Toronto, his favourite expression for getting together over a meal. We spent the last few months exchanging emails about everything under the sun from journalism to classical music. He was a Mozart lover and I was a skeptic (Bach all the way baby!) and we had so much fun going back and forth on that.
I'm devastated he's no more. I miss him terribly and I feel unanchored. But I'm so grateful to have gotten to know him and in some small way benefit from his genius and his incredible generosity.
I have way more to say about Rex so stay tuned.
RIP. Om Shanti.
