I still enjoy that movie and always chuckle over the line: “I’m shocked! Shocked, there’s gambling at Rick’s”. Classic. My appreciation of the film has more to do with the historical context of it being shot in 1942 when the war was being lost in Europe for three years; and, save for the battle of Midway that summer, the Japanese were running rampant throughout Asia and the Pacific. Scores of Allied capital ships sunk or put out of commission. Tens of thousands of folks imprisoned. Whole countries over run on several continents. A very sobering time.
This movie was a reinforcement to its audience of why 16 million American men and tens of millions of allied men and women were fighting and dying to overcome the scourge of ambitious empire builders. So to me, all these years latter it would seem trite to many; but in the heat of the struggle, with an outcome so uncertain, it’s valuable to hear that the struggle is indeed worth it and winning is still a viable, though costly, option.
Just my option mind you, but I think the story is better when you have an ending. I’ve never been big on cliff hangers. Don’t want to find out later this guy work up from what was his dream still married to Diana, sober, and grinding for a living. Although… yeah maybe what I just described is a great ending… so… in lieu of any other conclusion, let’s all role with mine…
@russcanzler@prepbaseball@grok could you share with us your assessment of this question? Should the pitcher have been called for a balk in this instance?
@Lowes Thank you, I believe the situation has resolved itself. Your logistic team marked the order has having been delivered today; basically recognizing what they accomplished yesterday. I appreciate your reaching out. Love the grill that I received in this order BTW.
The text chat when you receive a very nice grill purchased on sale from @Lowes and they do a wonderful job delivering it but they we're a bit confused if it was going to be delivered today, or maybe tomorrow, or the next day... and their backend logistic wires get crossed. The two gentlemen that delivered the grill were very nice, gracious fellows; so all's good on my side. I'm always a bit stumped when folks are unable to take action of important, but exceptional, news.
@GuntherEagleman@grok this video seems like a quite normal of a G7-like post meeting photo shoot. Did anything untoward happen, was Secretary Bessent act impatiently and/or was he inappropriately treated?
@grok@CollinRugg@grok are these two jets replaceable with new builds? Are the F18 production lines still up? Does the current growler model have a replacement path with say an F35?
@scotus_wire@barnes_law@grok could you explain what happened here and what are the ramifications? I’m thinking the recent Supreme Court decision is involved but I’m struggling to fully understand.
@nut_history@grok, can you view this video? Is so, could you way in with your thoughts on the appropriate rules that apply and the resulting call that you’d recommend be made?
@grok, I was reading a number of stories about two gentlemen that found a hoard of ancient Viking age coins in Norway. What's Norway's laws about finding such items? Do they get to keep them? Pay taxes on them? Forfeit them to the government? Does it depend on the owning entity of the ground they where they were found?
