@atrupar US Politics is pretty nasty and seems to be all about personal attacks on anyone and everyone who is against you, and who can spend more millions than their opponent, evidenced clearly by Trump and Vance. Does anyone ever talk about real policies?
@WoofiesBunnyBee@GrahameLucas@archer_rs Yes but it is still weird and, in my view dangerous, that a President can unilaterally pardon himself and his mates with apparently no oversight from the judiciary, as far as I understand it. I guess it is constitutional but still not the way a democracy should work.
@Jeffrey62093861@paullewismoney@theipaper The contracted out deduction is being paid with your occupational pension, they had to guarantee to pay the equivalent, or the legislated level, of the SERPS you would have received had you not contracted out. Most Occupational Pensions (DB) pay much more. Your NI was reduced.
@GrahameLucas@archer_rs As an onlooker to US politics, I do not understand how a President can act as judge and jury in his own misdemeanours and pardon himself. Pretty much a dictatorship isn’t it? Clearly no checks and balances on power, in particular the President, are pretty shakey and very worrying
@TonyChalcroft@BladeoftheS@RachelReevesMP We need to compare average/median incomes in retirement and how much people pay in tax (NI) for their state pensions. If you want a better state pension then you will have to pay more - considerably?- more NI (tax). Lots of UK pensioners have second/Co pensions not in this chart.
@Acyn Go on Donny boy we are all waiting with bated breath to know what you know. But then you are all bluster and no substance aren’t you. Please show us you are not all hot air and no facts.
@StokeyyG2 This just can’t be done and is really pointless. What about Bradman, Truman, Sobers, Statham, Ray Reardon, Joe Davis etc etc which many are too young to remember. Depends on what sport you followed. Charlton, Law, Best, Matthews etc etc etc
@ThatEricAlper Yes, I remember installing DOS 5 or 6 (I think that was the number). Everything was done from the key board. I also booted a Dell computer from front panel switches 100000088, again I think and it had one core memory card and a “solid state” one.
@BBCNewsnight What is this childish fixation on “my opening ceremony was better than yours”? Surely all that matters is what happens in the sporting arenas etc. That is what the Olympics should be all about.
@hazr198 Why would it be the greatest Olympics ever? Utter rubbish. The Olympics should be better than cities competing to see who can spend the most money on a boring opening ceremony which adds nothing to the sporting spectacle the Olympics should be. Get on with the games save millions
@TonyMer74881043@implausibleblog@cbissex@EllieChowns Yes, it still operates as a fusty “gentlemen’s club”, but nothing gentlemanly about it. Electronic voting is a must. Watching a vote on TV makes watching paint dry very exciting and is utterly time wasting, locking and unlocking doors for goodness sake. You couldn’t make it up.
