In Better Call Saul, Patrick Fabian once talked about what it was like filming “Plan and Execution,” and it honestly makes the scene hurt even more.
Before the final season even started, he got a call from the show. They told him, real casually,
“Yeah… we probably won’t need you after August.”
No details. Just that they had a brilliant” plan for Howard and couldn’t say what it was.
Then filming begins, and Howard is everywhere.
Boxing with Jimmy.
More screen time than ever.
Howard Hamlin is at his absolute peak.
So of course Patrick starts thinking, “Maybe they changed their minds. Maybe Howard’s too good to die.”
He said he read the script for that episode and loved it. Got to the big scene and thought,
“Wow. This is incredible.”
Then he turned the page.
Lalo walks in.
That’s it. Half a page.
“Let’s talk.”
End of episode.
That’s when it finally sank in.
Still one of the most shocking moments in TV history.
