My heart is heavy as I share this with you today.
Thirteen years ago, my youngest sister faced what we thought would be the end. In those dark hospital hours, she had not had oxygen in her brain for over 5 minutes, The family felt helpless in a way we've never known. But she survived—against all odds, she came back to us.
For both of us that year yielded a tough time to have hope. Yet I was inspired to write "God's Got This." It became more than just a song; it became our family's anthem of hope, a reminder that even in our darkest valleys, we're never alone.
Last week, she passed away peacefully, surrounded by love. And though my heart is shattered, I find comfort knowing she's finally free from pain.
This video is from my concert months from both of our deliverance, where I performed "God's Got This" and I was honored to have her by my side. Every note carried our pain. Every word held our journey. I'm sharing it now as both a tribute to her beautiful life and as a gift to anyone walking through their own valley. I was also able to throw in a Tribute to my uncle Zeke who also passed before her and after playing so beautifully in this song.
If this song speaks to your heart, you can find it on Spotify, Apple Music, and iTunes (link in comments). But more than anything, I hope it reminds you—as it reminds me—that even in our grief, even in our pain, we don't walk alone.
Rest easy, Deanna and Unc. You were loved beyond measure, and you always will be.
Thank you for letting me share them with you. ❤️
