Our Black-headed Gull colour ringing project continues to deliver exciting results. Ringed as a chick in 2025, 20BL was seen yesterday at Holme Pierrepont, Nottinghamshire. Thanks to @Alan_HP_Notts for submitting the sighting!

Revisiting the Raveningham farmland site on Wednesday, the ringing team recorded around 169 birds. Highlights included a Meadow Pipit, 94 Linnet, 15 Reed Bunting, and 24 Yellowhammer. Many thanks to @vikingoptical for their continued support.
Today we ringed what is possibly the first Nightingale of the year to be ringed in the UK at a site near Ipswich. There has been an influx of males heard singing across Suffolk this week, the start of what will hopefully be a successful breeding season.

Our first ringing demo of 2026 at RSPB Minsmere yesterday was very successful, inspiring young visitors over half-term. There was a noticeable increase in Blackcap and Chiffchaff as they return to breed. Join us every Thursday from 9am.

It was lovely to see so many visitors at our ringing demonstration at RSPB Minsmere today. Highlights were two Willow Warblers, and the first Reed Warbler of the year that was already wearing a French ring! Thank you to @vikingoptical for their support.
Last week at Minsmere we recorded an interesting Chiffchaff with a UK ring from outside our group. Recovery data shows it was ringed in Warwickshire on the 26th May 2018 as an adult- making it atleast 7 years and 10 months old!
