If your thinking a high religious people produce more children, then you are completely wrong.
Saudi for example a religious country should have more children, right?? But NOOOOO they even have just 2 children for a married couple.

France, Sweden, Denmark which not so high religious country still have close fertility rate upto 1.5-1.8.

Lets understand our own country INDIA (and also other country) got the fertility rate down and world population will stabilize around 10-11 billion

Back in 1940's: The Child Mortality was huge, so the chances of surviving till adulthood was rare, so they produced 5 children

1950's came the anitbiotics,vaccination began public health improved, More children survived and fertility remains high

1960's Child mortality drops sharply, Green revolution improves food security, parents realize few children are needed

1970's Family planning programs expand, female literacy rises and fertility drops to 4-5

1980's Urbanization accelerates, now fertility is at 4

1990's More women try heading to work and stay in education longer, fertility drops to 3-3.5

2000's Rapid economic growth, smaller urban homes and rising aspiration, fertility approaches replacement level (2.5)

2010's Later marriages, dual income households, high education cost Fertility drops to 2.2

2020's Expensive housing,childcare,career priorities low child mortality, India drops to 1.9 to 2 (below replacement)
