Dear Hartosh, No govt has or can hold power in Manipur solely on the basis of Meitei MLAs or its poweful. All govts' have stitched alliances with the poweful and political class in the hills. The BJP actually had the Kuki armed groups support it publicly, till N Biren Singh broke away. Even current BJP govt now has support from several fractions in the hills including a person as deputy CM married to chief of a Kuki armed group. This is a misreading of the facts and histories of Manipur. The games Indian political parties and the State play there at the cost of lives of the ordinary of all communities is not a replica of what they need to do to hold power in mainland India.

And there was fresh cause for the the armed groups of two sides to escalate. Even this piece notes it. You can read the @reporters_co investigation, which brought out for the first time some of these triggers with documentary evidence, that this report also cites.

You do injustice to the ordinary citizens of Manipur by bucketing them to convenience rather than reading in as much detail as you usually can.
