The UN Human Rights Council just passed a resolution on the Rohingya.

The most important line in it:
Not one Rohingya has returned to Myanmar through the official repatriation process. Not one.

Bangladesh submitted 800,000 names. Myanmar stalled. The Arakan Army now controls the land they came from.

The ICJ ordered Myanmar to protect the Rohingya in 2020.

It is now 2026.

India released crocodiles and venomous snakes into the Bangladesh border river to stop people crossing.

The BJP then won West Bengal and immediately announced deportations of Rohingya and Muslim migrants.

A Rohingya refugee told The Diplomat this week:
"Our fear is that we will be thrown into the sea, lynched, or dumped in camps. Several have already died in Indian detention."

There is no safe direction for them.

That's what kidnappers told the family of Mohammed Rezuwan, 18, a Grade 9 student from Camp 10, Cox's Bazar.

He went to the market. He never came back.

His family are refugees. They have no money. They don't know where he is.

Buses were organised. Men were recruited by letter. The attacks were coordinated.

The 120,000 people displaced that month were still in camps when 2017 happened.

The world called it communal violence and moved on.
Five years later came the genocide.

We remember 2012 because ignoring the first Black Day made the next one possible.

Organised mobs moved through Rohingya neighbourhoods in Rakhine State with iron spears and swords.

On June 3, Muslim pilgrims were pulled off a bus and killed.

On June 10 the government handed authority to the military.

200 people dead. 120,000 displaced. Police watched. Nobody prosecuted.

The Rohingya call these Black Days.

The ICJ is expected to rule on The Gambia v. Myanmar at any point in H2 2026. It could be the first time a state is formally found responsible for genocide by the world's highest court.

What the ruling CAN do:
→ Create a formal legal record of genocide
→ Pressure UN member states to act
→ Strengthen other legal proceedings against Myanmar
→ Give Rohingya survivors formal international recognition

What it CANNOT do alone:
→ Force repatriation to Myanmar
→ Guarantee safety of return
→ Compensate survivors

It matters. It is not enough. Both things are true.
